At Kindred Tails Sanctuary, our goal is to help you find the perfect match — one that brings love, joy, and companionship for years to come. Because we are a foster- and sanctuary-based organization, our cats (and occasional dogs, goats, and ducks!) are raised in loving environments where they can be socialized and cared for as individuals.
This approach helps us truly get to know each animal’s personality, preferences, and needs — allowing us to match them with the right adopter and ensure a lifetime of happiness for both of you. While it may take a little longer than visiting a traditional shelter, that extra time ensures your new companion is healthy, vetted, and ready to become part of your family.

Already know who you want to meet? Great! If not, no worries — once your adoption application is approved, it remains active for one year, so you can take your time finding your perfect match.

At Kindred Tails Sanctuary, our priority is ensuring that every adoption results in a safe, loving, and lifelong home. Please review the following requirements before submitting your adoption application:
1️⃣ Age & Ownership
Adopters must be at least 21 years old and applying to adopt for themselves. We do not adopt animals as gifts. If you’d like to surprise someone with an adoption, please contact us at support@kindredtailssanctuary.org — we’ll help you plan a special surprise while still involving the future owner in the process.
2️⃣ Current Pets
If you currently have pets, they must be up to date on vaccinations, spayed or neutered, and (for dogs) on heartworm prevention unless a medical or age-related exception applies.
If your pets are slightly behind on vaccines but you have a positive veterinary history, we may place your application on hold while you bring them up to date.
3️⃣ Housing Requirements
We follow all pet policies for rental properties, including limits on the number of pets, breed or species restrictions, and any size limitations. Please review your lease agreement before applying.
4️⃣ Service Animal Disclaimer
Because many of our animals come from unknown or difficult backgrounds, we cannot guarantee that any can be trained as service animals. All adoptions are for companion pets only.
5️⃣ Out-of-State Adoptions
We welcome out-of-state adopters who are willing to travel to meet and adopt their chosen pet — including bringing family members or current pets if needed.
Please note: Kittens and puppies under 4 months of age are adopted locally only. Pets traveling out of state must be at least 4 months old, fully vaccinated, and spayed/neutered.

Our team will review your application within 3–5 business days. If the animal is a good match, we will contact you for a short phone or in-person interview to go over your responses and adoption expectations.
You’ll be invited to meet the animal(s) you're interested in. For dog adoptions, we may schedule a home visit or introduce the pet in a neutral location. All household members (including other pets, where applicable) must participate in this step.
We reserve the right to perform a virtual or in-person home check to ensure it is a safe and appropriate environment for the animal.
Fees help cover veterinary care, vaccinations, spay/neuter, and daily care.
